Similarities & Differences Between Trailers: By Karolina
In the beginning of the teaser trailer for Mad Max, we see the production company's Warner Brothers and Roadshow Films, which are generally popular company's that the audience can relate to especially when they have made successful films. The ending of the trailers finished off with the movie name, the soon come, as well as the credits to the people who contributed to make the film. As it is a teaser they did not include the movie date as it was not yet established, therefore in the main trailer the release date is established. The setting, costume and lighting all link to the genre of the movie which is apocalyptic dystopian action film. The visual effects on the company logo have been edited to relate to the theme of the film, being set in a futuristic, dystopian and desert environment. In addition there are also red blood being smudge across the logo which connotes anger, destruction and death, this could linked to the idea of the theme being very hectic. The main trailer has more voiceovers as well as dialogue from specific characters, compared to the teaser. The dialogue in the main trailer gives the audience more ideas on what the movie is about. Both teaser trailer and the main trailer use similar non diegetic sound during a chaotic scenes which collide with one another. Music hits a crescendo, where more actions are shown in the trailers.
Compared to trailers, teaser trailers have less camera works, instead they use a lot of close up angles of the main characters to show off their facial expressions, also to identify them. Actors names are shown while cut-shots of scenes that have been in, by showing their names big and bold this will catch out the audiences attention because they could be familiar with their names or have seen them being involved in other film. However, in the main trailer they are not introduced, but are only vivid as the scenes cross cut between the characters.
Similarities & Differences Between Trailers, Posters & Front Covers:
Overall, the main similarities amongst the trailers, posters and front covers is the fact that they all feature the main male character and female character of the film 'Mad Max.' This shows their importance to the film as a whole and how the promoters of the film have intelligently used the two characters to market the film the most. By using these two main characters to market the film, the target audience are instantly able to recognise the film and previous fans of the main male character "Tom Hardy" who plays "Mad Max" will be more likely to want to watch the film, seeing an actor they like. The differences between the trailers, posters and front covers would be the positions/movements of the characters. In the film posters, they are both close to the ground, either on their feet or in a car. Whereas in the front covers, they are both standing up tall and confident, showing their power and status as main characters of the film. In the trailers, we see a mixture of different postions and movements of the main characters as they are placed in different action packed settings that sometimes require them driving in a vehicle, running away from enemies or walking alongside each other.
My Key Learning:
By carrying out this full market campagin analysis with KMJE Productions (My Trailer Group) I was able to see the different ways media is used to promote a movie, through trailers, posters and magazines. These are the three ways that I will be using when promoting my own film and it is very interesting to get an insight and understanding of how a completed film marketing campaign has been conducted already. I may possibly choose to adopt some of the features that were carried out in this campaign, such as using the main characters of the film consistently throughout the market campaign. Enabling my target audience to always associate my actress/actor with the film whenever they see their face marketed.
